I just have to say this, right out loud: JOEL SIEGEL DOES NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT FILM! To top it off, he's as annoying as an 23-week long intestinal infection, since he believes he is the alpha and omega of the opinion on a film. And, as the little cherry that goes over it all, he is a prostitute critic himself. Notice how he adores everything released by Disney? Gee, I wonder if that has anything to do with the fact that Disney owns ABC, his employer. He praises almost every blockbuster film, regardless of quality, unless some sort of popular negative hype is going on that would make him look bad. I could go into mentioning all the rumours I've heard about some of his decisions, but alas, I'd probably get sued out of my misery. Let's just leave it at the fact that he has no credibility in the film world whatsoever (but he does have a great agent)...
The greatest irony? When he was young he used to work with Terry Gilliam; he would write the lines for the cartoons that Gilliam would illustrate. One became a great film maker, with films like Monty Python and the Holy Grial, Brazil, 12 Monkeys, and The Fisher King to his credit. The other one just pretends to have done some great contribution to film. He would if he would stop writing reviews.
